Ione Smith has joined Proteus Marine Renewables as Senior Product Manager, based in Edinburgh with Proteus Tidal (Scotland) Limited. In her new role, Ione will lead the Proteus supply chain centre of competency, contribute to the blades design and supply project, and act as a key link between product development and project delivery across all business units.
Ione recently completed her Engineering Doctorate in Offshore Renewable Energy, where she evaluated the suitability of thermoplastic resins for the manufacture of tidal turbine blades. Her research explored how alternative composite materials and production processes could improve sustainability, design, and manufacturability in tidal energy systems.
Before embarking on her doctorate, Ione spent five years as a Mechanical Design Engineer at Jaguar Land Rover, gaining experience across the full product lifecycle and achieving her Engineering Chartership in 2022.
With a strong mix of industrial experience, advanced materials expertise, and enthusiasm for innovation in marine renewables, Ione will bring valuable insight to Proteus as the company scales production of its AR Series tidal turbines and strengthens its technology supply chain.
