Today, on International Women in Engineering Day, we’re celebrating the women powering progress behind the scenes, like Beth Lawrence, who’s helping shape the future of marine energy.
Beth is a valued member of our PMO team with added Japanese translation and interpretation skills. She played a vital role in ensuring that our AR1100 tidal turbine was successfully assembled in Nagasaki and installed in the Naru Strait (Goto Islands, Japan). With persistence and tenacity, she kept the project moving by ensuring components and subsystems were delivered to meet a tight delivery schedule. Donning a hard hat she also broke down the language barriers in the assembly facility and on the deck of a DP vessel at the forefront of the Tidal Industry. Thanks to her efforts and those of the wider Proteus team, the turbine was installed safely and presently supplies the local residences with clean, renewable energy.
We asked Beth what she enjoys most about her role:
"It’s so exciting to be part of the future of renewable energy, and sharing that across borders, cultures and languages. It is amazing to be working together with an international team in various environments to make these innovative projects a reality overseas and in the UK. I have particularly enjoyed being in the thick of things offshore and in workshops, facilitating communication between our UK Team and Japanese partners. I look forward to playing my part in building these and new relationships in the future." - Beth.
Together we engineer with fresh ideas and new perspective. That’s how we build better, smarter solutions.
